Trump says US could strike Iran soon or reach a deal

President Donald Trump said the US could strike Iran "as soon as tomorrow" or reach a "big, beautiful" agreement. Iran blamed Washington for earlier failed talks and warned any strike would bring a response "several times greater." Iran's president said many Iranians are struggling to afford food as the war continues.

Why it matters: A new round of fighting could disrupt Gulf oil supplies further and push fuel prices higher worldwide.

Iran's president says many are struggling for food

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said many Iranians are struggling to afford food as the war takes its toll. He called for an end to what he described as a state of "neither war nor peace." Separately, Iran asked India for a direct air route to fly in medicines, which India has not allowed because of US sanctions.

Why it matters: Ordinary Iranians are bearing the cost of war and sanctions through food and medicine shortages.
