World mood

How it's calculated

  1. Every story gets a tone. The curation step rates each story from −1 to +1 using a fixed rubric, judging the event itself rather than how an outlet framed it:
    • Bigger stories count more. Each tone is weighted by the story's importance (1–5), so a historic event counts five times as much as a minor one.
    • One number for the planet. mood = Σ (tone × importance) ÷ Σ importance

News skews toward conflict and crisis, so most days land between Uneasy and Tense. The tint of the globe's atmosphere follows this score.

        About One Turn

One turn of the Earth is one day. One Turn is a new way to see that day's news: the whole planet at once, every story placed where it happened, redrawn every day.

Day and night on the globe follow the sun's real position right now. Beacon size shows global significance, color shows topic, and the tint of the atmosphere reflects the day's World Mood. Switch to Economy to see markets and how each country's economy is doing, or to Planet for live earthquakes, storms, floods, volcanoes and wildfires.

Use it daily: add One Turn to your home screen from your browser's menu.
